When Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election, it created a flurry of interest from potential candidates.   Among those seeking the state’s top job is the current Lieutenant Governor. Interested candidates are now coming forward to announce their campaigns for  the state’s second in command.  Republican Randy Brock, a former state senator who served as state auditor from 2005 to 2007 and unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2012, has announced that he will seek the Lieutenant Governor’s position.  He tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley there are a few reasons he opted to run for Lieutenant Governor in 2016.
There are two Democrats running for Lieutenant Governor.  Brandon Riker of Marlboro was the first candidate to enter the race several months ago.  This week Kesha Ram, a democratic state Representative from Burlington announced she will formally kick off her campaign on October 26th.  On the Republican side, former gubernatorial candidate Scott Milne is considering several options including a possible run for Lieutenant Governor.
