Views Mixed As End Of Vermont Interactive Television Nears

Vermont Interactive Technologies/Facebook

With a linchpin of Vermont's distance-learning efforts scheduled to disappear in December, the head of the Vermont State Colleges says he's confident new technology will fill the void. Others aren't so sure.

Lawmakers and the Shumlin administration earlier this year decided to cut funding for Vermont Interactive Television, a move expected to save the state more than $800,000.

State Colleges Chancellor Jeb Spaulding says newer, cheaper, web-based video conferencing can work as well.

But the change is drawing fire from Brad Talbot of the Vermont Plumber's Association and Jan Sensenich, Chapter 13 trustee with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Vermont.

Both Talbot and Sensenich say they'll be left managing classes and court hearings, respectively, in person, which will present travel and scheduling difficulties.
