The Massachusetts Legislature has restored a number of vetoes Governor Charlie Baker made in signing a $38 billion budget earlier this month.The legislature has restored $5.25 million in funding to the University of Massachusetts bringing the five-campus system’s budget to nearly $532 million. Lawmakers also restored $17.5 million in funding for kindergarten expansion grants and more than $2 million to the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Gov. Baker had vetoed some $162 million in line items.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the House and Senate planned to take a number of votes to consider restoring $97 million in funding. A two-thirds vote is required in each body to override a veto.
