A Vermont woman has donated land across from her South Royalton home to preserve a popular White River swimming hole.
Peg Elmer of South Royalton tells the Valley News (http://bit.ly/1dEHBmN ) that she began the process to donate the property across from her home on Route 14 five years ago, but Tropical Storm Irene threw a wrench in the works. Elmer's own home was so damaged by the 2011 storm that she had to make refinancing and repairing it a priority.
But this spring, with the help of the Vermont River Conservancy and White River Partnership, Elmer transferred the parcel known as Pinch Rock to an easement held by the conservancy. The conservancy is expected to transfer ownership to the town of White River Junction by summer's end.
