Massachusetts Lt. Governor Karen Polito has visited more than 40 cities and towns since late January as she continues to work on improving relations between the Baker administration and the state’s municipalities.
Polito on Thursday made stops in Agawam, Westfield, West Springfield, and Springfield where she held a private hour-long meeting with Mayor Domenic Sarno and top city officials.
"It is really giving me and the governor and our cabinet a sense of where the priorities are and how we can invest in regions and places like Springfield and help them achieve their goals of overall economic activity," Polito told reporters after the Springfield meeting.
During the meeting with Polito, Springfield officials asked for $12 million to put the finishing touches on the Union Station transportation hub, sought support to create a center for workforce development and manufacturing innovation and appealed for relieve from rising school transportation costs.
