Governors from the six New England states are going to meet in Hartford Thursday to pursue a regional energy strategy.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker said he looks forward to developing a regional solution to the high cost of electricity blamed on a lack of infrastructure to bring natural gas to power plants.
"The single biggest thing we can do to deal with the rising cost of energy is to create more pipeline capacity," Baker said. earlier this year, speaking with reporters in Springfield.
The New England governors are also expected to endorse a regional bid for clean energy from hydroelectric power in Canada and large-scale wind farms in northern New England.
Massachusetts had among the most expensive electrical costs in the country this winter. Utility companies hiked rates by more than 25 percent.
