Vermont Trooper Pleads Not Guilty To Drunken Driving Charge

A suspended Vermont State Police trooper has pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol while he was on duty.

Twenty-seven-year-old Trooper Eric R. Rademacher of Mendon entered the plea Monday in Rutland court. He was released on conditions.

He was suspended on March 2 after he was called out from home around 4:30 a.m. to respond to a two-vehicle crash in Shrewsbury and later a domestic fight. Other troopers later allegedly smelled alcohol on his breath.

Defense attorney David Sleigh said Monday the evidence shows that not a single person saw anything that was consistent with impairment. Sleigh says he doubts anyone else would have been charged in such circumstances.

Rademacher was suspended with pay shortly after the incident.
