Milne Still Mulling Possible Fight In Legislature

Vermont Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Milne is still saying he may ask lawmakers for their votes when the Legislature convenes in January and elects a governor for the next two years.

No candidate for governor got more than 50 percent of the vote in the Nov. 4 election, and the Vermont Constitution says when that happens, it's up to lawmakers to decide.

Milne finished a close second to incumbent Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin, and last week, the Republican said he would not seek a recount.

But Milne issued a statement Tuesday saying he wants to ensure the views of his supporters are heard when lawmakers meet in January.

He said he'll make a further announcement about his plans in early December.

Shumlin's fellow Democrats have big majorities in both legislative houses.
