wikipedia

A South Korean company will manufacture subway cars in Springfield if it wins a contract with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

Hyundai Rotem joins Chinese rail-car maker CNR Changchun in pledging to build a manufacturing plant in Springfield as a condition for winning a contract to build 200 new subway cars for the MBTA.  The two companies are among a half dozen firms that have bid for the work.   Jeff Ciuffreda, president of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce said both companies have estimated the facilities would provide up to 200 full time jobs

" I am guardedly optimistic that with that kind of detail in their proposal one of them will be successful."

The contract to build the new subway cars is expected to be awarded in November.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts.
