Massachusetts gambling regulators today finalized the casino license award for the greater Boston region.
Acting gaming commission chairman James McHugh and officials from Wynn Resorts signed the paperwork authorizing the Las Vegas-based company to build a $1.6 billion casino in Everett, just north of Boston. Wynn Senior Vice President Robert DeSalvio said the goal is to open the casino by the end of 2017.
"We've always said the project in total will have a three year build out. That includes both environmental remediation and the construction phase of it."
The gaming commission has also licensed MGM to build a casino in Springfield. Construction of a slots machine parlor is underway in southeastern Massachusetts. Voters in November will decide a referendum that could stop all the projects.
