Officials at the Vermont Health Department say they're concerned about a number of overdoses involving the synthetic drug known as spice that have been reported recently in New Hampshire.
Vermont Toxicologist Sarah Vose says spice is a mixture of herbs and spices that is sprayed with chemicals similar to the active ingredient in marijuana.
Vose says that sometimes other chemicals are also sprayed on spice that can cause adverse health effects.
The chemicals are often sold in packets labeled "not for human consumption."
Last week New Hampshire's governor declared a state of emergency to allow public health officials to investigate and quarantine synthetic drugs linked to at least 41 overdoses in Manchester and Concord.
Vermont officials say they are unaware of any similar overdoses reported in Vermont.
