Construction is expected to begin later this year on a public riverwalk in Ludlow, Massachusetts as part of the largest brownfields mill redevelopment project in New England.
Bids are being sought to build the first phase of the riverwalk at the Ludlow Mills complex. Ludlow Selectmen Aaron Saunders said it is an exciting project because it will be the first time in decades the town will be connected to the Chicopee River.
"It really makes it,in addition to being an historic project and an economic development project, a community project."
A private non-profit development corporation has advanced a plan to redevelop the 176 acre site over the next 15-20 years. A new rehabilitation hospital opened earlier this year, and construction is expected to start soon on a senior citizen housing complex.
