Governor Peter Shumlin is marking the start of construction of what will become the home of the Vermont Agency of Human Services at the Waterbury office complex, most of which had to be abandoned after it was damaged by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.
The governor on Tuesday ceremoniously helped construction crews pour one of the first concrete footings on what will become the new state office building.
The $125 million Waterbury state office project is the largest state capital construction project in state history.
Construction is due to be completed by the end of 2015. Once that is done, it will be home to about 900 employees of the Agency of Human Services.
The new site is designed to survive the next big storm.
