The Vermont Senate Government Operations committee was scheduled Tuesday afternoon to take up a proposal to require statewide standards for police using electronic stun guns.
Last month, a bill passed the House that would require the Criminal Justice Training Council, which oversees the Vermont Police Academy in Pittsford, to develop and implement the new standards.
The House bill would require the council to report back to the Legislature by December 2015.
The issue of police stun gun use in Vermont was highlighted by the June 20, 2012, death of Macadam Mason after he was hit in the chest with a stun gun by a state police trooper in Thetford.
