Petitions To Re-Open NARH Delivered On Beacon Hill

Jim Levulis

People advocating for the restoration of healthcare services in the Northern Berkshires were returning from a bus trip to Beacon Hill Tuesday afternoon.

About 70 people including members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and SEIU 1199 delivered petitions signed by about 12,000 people to Gov. Deval Patrick's director of constituent services, as well as the offices of Senate President Therese Murray and House Speaker Robert DeLeo. Patrick and many state officials are at events commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The group calls for restoring a full-service hospital in the region and government support of regional ambulance services stretched thin from the closing of NARH.

They also invited Gov. Patrick to their weekly community meetings. Buses are traveling back to North Adams for a 5 p.m. meeting at the American Legion.

Jim was WAMC’s Assistant News Director and hosted WAMC's flagship news programs: Midday Magazine, Northeast Report and Northeast Report Late Edition.
