Gaming Commissioners To Hold Hearing On Springfield Casino

MGM Springfield

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is holding a public hearing in Springfield Tuesday on MGM’s plans for an $800 million casino.

This will likely be the last chance for the public to weigh in on the casino proposed for downtown Springfield before the commission awards the sole western Massachusetts casino license.   MGM is the only applicant.  Gaming commission chairman Stephen Crosby said MGM’s proposal seems solid.

" If people raise issues of mitigation or something we have not thought about there is room for tweaks in the proposal."

At a public hearing held by the gaming commission in West Springfield on March 3rd about 60 people offered their opinions on the MGM casino project.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
