Politicians boycotted St. Patrick’s Day parades in Boston and New York because organizers banned marchers promoting gay rights, but that won’t be the case this Sunday at a big parade in Western Massachusetts.
The Holyoke High School Gay Straight Alliance will have a spot in Sunday’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Holyoke. The group was founded by Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse when he was a 16 year old high school student.
" It will be the first time we've had an LGBT group in the parade. It is a great moment of pride for Holyoke as we have the second largest St Patrick's parade in the country."
Morse invited MassEquality to march in Holyoke’s parade after the gay rights group was barred from Boston’s parade, but a spokesperson said other commitments would keep them from participating.
