Mass. Rep Suggests 2nd Chances For Pot Applicants

A state lawmaker reviewing the selection of operators of medical marijuana dispensaries says the state agency overseeing the process should reconsider some highly-rated proposals that were not approved for provisional licenses.

State Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez said in a letter to the Public Health Department that any proposal from a company that scored at least 137 out of a possible 163 in the state's scoring system should get another review "in the same manner" as those that were selected for 20 provisional licenses.

The Boston Democrat's recommendations came after questions surfaced regarding the qualifications of staff at several applicants and possible misstatements in their applications.

The agency said in a statement to The Boston Globe that Sanchez's recommendations are "extremely helpful," but stopped short of saying they would be adopted.
