Putney voters say a few hundred residents do not have access to affordable broadband Internet and they want Vermont lawmakers to change that.
In a resolution passed unanimously during Town Meeting Day on Tuesday, Putney residents called on legislators to expand hard-wired broadband to the town by the end of 2014.
John Field, a resident who drafted the resolution, called on former Putney resident Gov. Peter Shumlin to address it.
Field told Vermont Public Radio that Shumlin "made us a promise at town meeting here last year that he would get everything wired 100 percent, no ifs, ands or buts."
Field says about 300 Putney residents only have dial-up access and even with his HughesNet service, he and his family have difficulty with Skype and streaming content.
