Program Offers Free Help To Fill Out Financial Aid Form

College-bound students and their parents can get free help this weekend with financial aid applications

This is the 10th annual Massachusetts College Goal Sunday, a program that provides free information and help on applying for financial aid.  Richard O’ Connor, assistant director of financial aid at American International College in Springfield—one of 35 participants in the program—says professionals will help families fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

"For those filling it out the first time it can be a bit overwhelming and a bit scary. That is what we are here for is to try to ease some of the anxiety families may have about doing this form."

The form is required for all federal programs including Pell Grants and student loans, and most colleges require it for any financial- aid offers.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
