MGM Resorts on Thursday will detail its plans for a casino in downtown Springfield to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
Before top MGM officials make a 90 minute presentation to the gaming industry regulators in Boston, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno will address the commission and strongly endorse MGM’s project.
"This not only a transforming $800 million economic development project for Springfield, but for western Massachusetts and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts," said Sarno.
MGM is the lone applicant for the western Massachusetts casino license. MGM beat out a competing proposal in Springfield. Casino projects in Palmer and West Springfield were rejected by voters. The gaming commission expects to award the state’s first resorts casino licenses by the end of May.
