New England Braces For Storm

Residents across New England are bracing themselves for the first winter storm of the new year.

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy is urging residents to stay off the roads. Malloy says he also is asking motorists to give themselves extra time during the Thursday and Friday commutes.

The state is expecting up to a foot of snow in some spots, beginning late Thursday night.

The mayor of Bridgeport, Conn., has already declared a state of emergency imposing special parking regulations so crews can plow.

Meanwhile, snow has begun dropping across much of Massachusetts with forecasts calling for up to 14 inches in the Boston area and well over a foot of snow through tomorrow in western Massachusetts. Colder temperatures and stiff winds are expected to make for frigid conditions. Boston has declared a snow emergency and many state schools are closed today.
