The Springfield Public Schools will ask the Massachusetts School Building Authority for money to build two new schools
Springfield School Superintendent Dan Warwick said the request to replace two elementary schools, both built in the 1890s is part of an aggressive effort to improve school facilities. In the last few years a new high school was built, a middle school renovation completed, construction started to replace a tornado- damaged school, and there have been dozens of upgrades throughout the district
" New windows, new facade, new roofs, so a lot of improvements at many of our schools and it is not just the new projects. Twenty-three schools have been impacted and it is going to be more," said Warwick.
The state has spent more than $300 million on school building projects in Springfield since 2004.
