Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin says he thinks it's unlikely the decision by President Barack Obama to allow people to extend existing health insurance policies for a year will have much impact on Vermont.
The state had already decided to allow individuals and small businesses to extend their current health insurance plans through March 31.
Shumlin says he spoke Thursday with leaders of the state's two health insurance providers, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont and MVP Health Care, and they're confident the extra time already given by the state will ensure the state can implement the federally mandated health overhaul.
As of Thursday, 3,746 people had chosen a health insurance plan through the Vermont Health Connect website, up 345 people from Wednesday.
