Student enrollment at the University of Massachusetts has surged to a record level.
Enrollment at UMass is projected to reach 71,988 students this fall, which is a record for the five campus system. UMass President Robert Caret said with demand for a college education increasing tuition and mandatory student fees were frozen for this academic year.
Caret said tuition and fees will not increase next year, if Governor Patrick and state legislators agree to fund half the university’s operating budget.
