Efforts Continue To Reduce Infant Deaths

Partners For A Healthier Community

A new effort is being launched to reduce the number of infant deaths in western Massachusetts  largest city.

A new educational and outreach campaign will be launched Monday in Springfield to raise awareness of infant mortality.  Michael Vigneux, spokesman for the Massachusetts office of the March of Dimes Foundation said Springfield has the highest infant mortality rate among the 30 largest municipalities in Massachusetts.

The March of Dime is funding the new initiative by Project Baby Springfield, which is part of the city’s Department of Health and Human Services.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
