Sept. 12 Proclaimed Laura Kate Winterbottom Day

The mayor of Burlington is proclaiming Sept. 12 "Laura Kate Winterbottom Day" in memory of a Vermont woman who was abducted and killed in 2005.

Mayor Miro Weinberger is encouraging the public to take part in Laura's March, a charity walk and run this Saturday against sexual violence.

He joined Winterbottom's parents, her sister and organizations that will benefit from the event at a press conference on Thursday.

The seventh annual march will raise money to help prevent violence against women and other causes.

So far the Laura Kate Winterbottom Memorial Fund has raised nearly $100,000, dispersed to more than 40 non-profit organizations in Chittenden County and surrounding areas.
