A slew of ballot questions, from a minimum wage hike and to a sales tax cut, are facing their first major hurdle in Massachusetts.
Attorney General Martha Coakley is expected to announce today which of the 33 proposed questions submitted to her office last month pass constitutional muster.
Other questions would repeal the state's casino law, require labels on genetically modified foods, create nurse-patient staffing ratios and repeal a new tax on computer software services.
Coakley said the questions propose 18 new laws and four constitutional amendments. Some of the questions were variations of the same issue.
Those questions deemed constitutional by Coakley face a tough road to the 2014 ballot, with supporters required to collect more than 80,000 voter signatures.
In 2012, only three of 31 proposed initiative petitions made the ballot.
