Vermont's Norwich University is getting $9.9 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to continue working on a cyber-warfare gaming system.
Norwich's Applied Research Institutes will use the money to continue developing the system used by financial institutions and other organizations to respond to attacks on their computer systems.
The software system developed at Norwich called DECIDE allows multiple organizations to participate in and defend against such attacks.
Research Institute President Phil Susmann says the best way to teach people to defend against a cyber attack is by experiencing a mock one.
Norwich's latest contract is expected to create about a dozen jobs.
Norwich President Richard Schneider says the Research Institutes is a separate non-profit company that is wholly owned by the university that handles research with commercial value.
