A former elected official in western Massachusetts has pleaded guilty to charges in a voter fraud scheme.

A former selectmen from East Longmeadow is facing sentencing Wednesday after pleading guilty to multiple charges  that involved changing the party registrations of almost 300 voters from Democrat to un-enrolled and then requesting absentee ballots.  At the time the scheme was uncover and he was arrested a year ago, 35 year old  Jack Villamiano was a candidate in a Republican primary for state representative.  After he entered the guilty pleas, Monday, in a state court in Springfield, a judge revoked Villiamiano’s  $10,000 bail. Hampden District Attorney Mark Mastrionni is asking the judge to sentence Villimiano to a year  in prison.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
