Final Phase Of $200 Million Redevelopment Underway

Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal has announced the final phase in a decade long revitalization project in the neighborhood surrounding the Springfield Museums.

$2 million in street renovations will be done this summer  to put the finishing  touches on the revitalization of the Armory-Quadrangle neighborhood.  A new federal courthouse opened in 2008, a state data center will open later this summer. There have been numerous infrastructure improvements. Congressman Neal said about $200 million in public money has been spent to enhance and preserve the commercial and educational district.

The Springfield Museums attract 250,000 visitors annually.

The record-setting tenure of Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno. The 2011 tornado and its recovery that remade the largest city in Western Massachusetts. The fallout from the deadly COVID outbreak at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Those are just a few of the thousands and thousands of stories WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill has covered for WAMC in his nearly 17 years with the station.
