Vermont To Offer Discounted Bus Fares to State Workers

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin says new efforts are being made to encourage state workers in Montpelier not to drive into the city but to use other commuting methods.

Governor Shumlin said Wednesday that the Richmond park and ride will be expanded this summer by 53 spaces so that more people can use the commuter bus service.

He says bus fares for people traveling to Montpelier will be discounted by 50 percent and that the state is setting up an emergency ride home service for commuters who currently drive because they're worried about suddenly needing their car.

The state will contract with private transportation companies to offer that service and pay for it.
