Limits On Outsider Spending In Massachusetts Senate Race Rejected

Republican Gabriel Gomez is rejecting calls from Democrat Ed Markey to sign a pledge to keep outside groups from buying campaign ads in the special election for Senate in Massachusetts.

 Gomez said  it is hypocritical for Markey to call for a spending limit after Markey has spent decades in Congress building a campaign war chest with contributions from special interest groups.  Markey , after winning the Democratic primary Tuesday warned that conservative super PACs will try to help elect Gomez.

Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren agreed to the so-called “ peoples pledge” to restrict third party spending in last year’s Senate election.  Brown and Warren each raised and spent record sums in that race. The special senate election is on June 25
