An environmental group plans to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for not giving endangered species status to a rare songbird that breeds on mountaintops in northern New England, the Adirondacks and eastern Canada, and winters in the Caribbean.
The Center for Biological Diversity in Richmond, Vermont says climate change threatens to destroy the habitat of the Bicknell's thrush.
Last summer, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said the sparrow-sized bird was being considered for endangered species status.
The Center for Biological Diversity says the service was required to make a final decision a year after a petition was filed; it's now more than a year overdue.
The Fish and Wildlife Service said Tuesday that it had not yet seen the intent to sue notice and could not comment.
