UMass President Begins Statewide Bus Tour

The president of the University of Massachusetts is on a statewide bus tour to tout the five campus system’s contributions to the state’s economy.  WAMC’s Paul Tuthill reports

   By highlighting  the ways UMass helps to drive the state’s economy, university president Robert Caret hopes to persuade state legislators to increase the university’s budget. Caret warns Massachusetts is in danger of losing  affordable quality higher education

   During Caret’s four day 500 mile tour  he’s scheduled  to visit businesses run  by UMass alumni, and starts ups that resulted from university research.  At a farm in Hadley , he underscored the university’s historic and ongoing commitment to agriculture.  Next year marks the 150th anniversary of  the founding of  UMass Amherst as a land grant university.
