A Vermont state representative is apologizing for comments about a development project planned for land next to Interstate 89 in Randolph.
Randolph Democrat Patsy French says she had it wrong when she told a legislative committee on Tuesday that town zoning regulations would severely restrict what types of retail establishments could be placed around a proposed Vermont visitors' center and products showcase off of Exit 4.
Developer Sam Sammis and the Shumlin administration are planning what would be Vermont's first privately run highway rest area as part of a larger development being planned by Sammis.
French told a legislative committee she thought local zoning could interfere with Sammis' plans. She now says she does not think that's true, and that she supports the project.
