The Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York is postponing programs on its campus until 2021. And it has already implemented furloughs and other cost-cutting measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Omega CEO Robert “Skip” Backus, who has been with the nonprofit for more than 35 years, says this is the most challenging yet necessary decision Omega has ever had to make. Meantime, Omega is taking steps to ramp up online learning, build digital community and leverage partnerships to reach a wider global audience. Online offerings aimed at uplifting the human spirit and providing strength and inspiration for these unprecedented times have already begun. As it postpones in-person events, Omega estimates a multimillion dollar deficit, posing a threat to the nonprofit’s future, so it’s launching a special fundraising campaign.
