After more than 50 years with SUNY New Paltz, a distinguished political scientist and director of the Benjamin Center for Public Policy Initiatives will retire.

Dr. Gerald Benjamin, associate vice president for regional engagement, will retire from the college June 30. Yet beginning February 14, Benjamin will step down as director of the Benjamin Center and spend the spring supporting the Center’s transition to new leadership, complete several center projects and teach a course in state government. Associate Director of the Benjamin Center Dr. KT Tobin will become director. Tobin is deputy mayor of the Village of New Paltz. In retirement, Benjamin, who once served as an Ulster County legislature chair, will be affiliated with the Center as a researcher and be available to teach courses periodically.
