Schumer Asks Official To Bring Aer Lingus To Stewart

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey

New York U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is urging an Irish airline to land at Stewart International Airport in Orange County.

Schumer has written to an Aer Lingus official, asking for the airline to expand its presence in New York by establishing routes out of Stewart Airport in Newburgh. This comes after Norwegian Air ended its low-cost flights to Ireland out of Stewart in September, citing that its use of a different aircraft after the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX was not commercially viable. Schumer wrote that while interest in travel to Ireland is strong, the Hudson Valley offers destinations for incoming European fliers, such as Woodbury Common Premium Outlets, proximity to New York City and starting in the summer, Legoland, with a 15-minute shuttle service to and from the airport.
