Westchester County has been awarded a $100,000 grant to help address climate change.

The county, along with five of its villages, one town and two cities, has received the state grant to administer a working group to complete individual government operations greenhouse gas inventories and climate action plans that will outline emissions reduction targets, strategies and projects. This 16-month inter-municipal program is called the Westchester County Climate Action Planning Institute. In addition to the county, the cities of Peekskill and White Plains; Villages of Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, Pelham, Tarrytown and Ossining; and Town of Ossining are participants. County Executive George Latimer hopes the program will serve as a model.
