Ulster County Exec Elected To A Full Term; DA Race Is Close

Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan scored a decisive win in Tuesday’s election. Voters selected a new comptroller but another race is too close to call.

Ryan, a Democrat, defeated Republican Jack Hayes in a rematch of April’s special election. Ryan delivered his victory speech at Keegan Ales in Kingston.

“And so what I’ve done in my first few months is not just work on accomplishments of protecting our environment and tackling the opioid epidemic, and lowering taxes while we do it, but, in everything we do, we’re trying to govern inclusively,” Ryan says.

Democrat March Gallagher is the next Ulster County comptroller after defeating Lisa Cutten. The race for district attorney between Democrat Dave Clegg and Republican chief assistant district attorney Michael Kavanagh, as of Tuesday night, had Clegg leading by less than two percentage points, by 819 votes. Democrat Steve Noble will serve a second term as Kingston mayor.
