Mount Vernon Has Its First Woman Elected Mayor

Sahwyn Howard-Patterson
Facebook: Shawyn Patterson-Howard for Mayor

The City of Mount Vernon in Westchester County has its first woman elected mayor.

Democrat Shawyn Patterson-Howard sailed to victory in a three-way race after having won a four-way Democratic primary in June. She’ll take the reins from acting mayor Andre Wallace, who ran on the Republican line. Wallace became acting mayor after Democrat Richard Thomas pleaded guilty in July to misusing campaign funds and resigned. Elsewhere in Westchester, Democratic Peekskill Mayor Andre Rainey was elected to a second term.
