The mayor of a city in New York’s Hudson Valley is giving drivers a holiday present.

Kingston Mayor Steve Noble says there will be what he calls relaxed ticketing when it comes to parking meters. He says that from December 19th through Tuesday, January 1st, the city’s relaxed enforcement applies to expired meter ticketing. Instead, parking staff will focus on meter repairs and maintenance. However, they will be giving violations for safety issues, such as blocking fire hydrants, parking in spots reserved for people with disabilities, double parking and expired inspections. Noble says he hopes to make the holidays a little brighter and less stressful.
