Utility companies have been distributing dry ice and bottled water as they work to restore power to tens of thousands of customers in the Hudson Valley following Tuesday’s severe thunderstorms.

NYSEG says it was down to about 44,000 customers without power as of midday Thursday from more than 98,000. It expects to restore the majority of its Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester customers by Friday night and the remainder by Saturday. NYSEG says its customers in Delaware, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties should be back Thursday evening, and the remainder by Friday evening. Orange and Rockland Utilities has restored power to most, but says it will be Sunday afternoon before all of its Sullivan County customers have their lights. Central Hudson has restored power to about half of the more than 74,000 customers impacted by the storms. It expects to restore power to all of its customers in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Ulster Counties by Friday night. Con Edison is down to about 400 customers out in Westchester, with restoration due by Thursday night.
