Dutchess Legislator Announces Run For NYS Senate Seat

Courtesy of Joel Tyner

A Democratic Dutchess County legislator re-elected to his eighth term says he will challenge Republican incumbent New York state Senator Sue Serino in the 2018 election.

Joel Tyner, who represents Rhinebeck and Clinton, made the announcement on social media and in his blog. Tyner says he’s running on a number of issues, including strict campaign finance limits, the legalization of small amounts of recreational marijuana, a fossil-free New York by 2035 and more. A Serino spokeswoman says the second-term senator has established a strong record of delivering for the local community and has been a leader on issues that matter most to Hudson Valley families. Serino defeated former state Democratic Senator Terry Gipson in 2014 and 2016. The 41st Senate District includes most of Dutchess County and part of Putnam County.
