Grant To Fund Study On Train Quite Zone In Cornwall-on-Hudson

A New York state assemblyman from the Hudson Valley says a grant he helped secure will fund a study on a train quiet zone for an Orange County village.

Democratic Assemblyman James Skoufis says the $5,400 grant will fund a train quiet zone study for the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson. CSX requires a study before any action can be taken to implement a quiet zone at crossings. Any train passing through the village is required to sound its horn three times at each of the two railroad crossings along Donahue Memorial Park. Skoufis says residents have reached out to local officials over the years to voice their frustration, especially with the overnight noise. Cornwall-on-Hudson’s deputy mayor says, “It will be good to have a formal study of the village’s options to deal with the unwelcome noise and the costs involved.”
