An alliance that advocates for Catskill Park is seeking a financial commitment from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state legislature to help boost the regional economy.
The Catskill Park Coalition would like the commitment in the form of a $10 million “Catskills Package” that would build on regional collaborative successes such as the Catskills Challenge and support for local tourism groups.
The coalition has a list of six priorities, which include money for staffing and operations at the Maurice D. Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center; added funding towards stewardship and maintenance activities in Catskill Park; support of a “Save the Hemlocks” project to reduce the impact of the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid; and an economic study to show the before and after of casino development in Sullivan County.
