SLCH Plans To Shut Cornwall Emergency Department

SLCH

After pausing its application for closure more than three months ago, a hospital in the Hudson Valley has decided to proceed with shutting its emergency department.

St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital will close the emergency department at its Cornwall campus January 12, consolidating emergency services at its Newburgh campus, where it plans to add nurses and providers.  Hospital executives say the Cornwall location will expand non-emergency services, such as in primary care and rehabilitation programs. Over the summer, elected officials had called on the state Department of Health to reject the hospital’s application for closure for October 1. Democratic Assemblyman James Skoufis says he will fight the latest closure effort as well work with local urgent care centers to extend their hours.
