St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital Hits Pause On Emergency Dept. Closure

A hospital in the Hudson Valley that was set to close its emergency department October 1, pending state approval, has put its closure application on hold.

St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital says it will pause its application for closure and continue to operate the emergency department on the Cornwall campus, for now. Hospitalizations occur at the Newburgh facility. A statement from the hospital says the pause comes until questions about the Cornwall Campus Emergency Department transition and access to care are addressed with local leaders and elected officials, including Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, Senator Bill Larkin and Assemblyman James Skoufis. Larkin and Skoufis, in separate letters, had called on the state Department of Health to reject the hospital’s application to close the Cornwall emergency department.
