NY Governor Vetoes HV Lawmakers' Bill To Block Trucks From Parkways

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has vetoed a bill sponsored by Hudson Valley lawmakers to block large trucks from entering parkways in Westchester County.

The bill sought to require the state Department of Transportation to determine which entrances to parkways in Westchester County are most frequently and illegally accessed by oversized commercial vehicles and install height barriers to prevent their entrance. The bill’s sponsors say that less than 72 hours after the governor vetoed the bill, there was another accident with injuries after a truck illegally entered a Westchester parkway. The bill was sponsored by Democrat Tom Abinanti in the Assembly and Republican Terrence Murphy in the Senate. Senator David Carlucci, an Independent Democrat, was co-sponsor. They say the governor’s veto message said the state DOT has conducted an assessment and was taking sufficient measures.
